Darrell ParsonsFounder and Chairman  

Darrell Parsons Mr. Parsons founded AFIMAC in 1982 with a clear vision of filling an enormous gap in the saturated security industry. To do this, he created a "premium" investigative and security service product to serve corporate clients in need. From its modest beginnings in the Greater Toronto area, Mr. Parsons guided the business strongly forward with unwavering adherence to superior quality and industry best practices. Today, under his continued leadership, AFIMAC enjoys its status as North America's largest provider of Crisis Management & Response Services.

A well-recognized corporate leader, Mr. Parsons firmly believes that businesses should give back to the community that supports them. As such, he keeps active in a wide variety of associations and charities, and serves as a mentor to several other business professionals heading up strategic organizations, Mr. Parsons is also a founding member of the Mayor's Round Table in Milton, Ontario, an organization that focuses on supporting people and businesses in the community.

Peter Martin — President Peter Martin is the President & CEO of AFIMAC Global, a company which for more than 30 years, has offered emergency response, strike security, travel risk management and other elite security services to image conscious companies across the globe. AFIMAC prides itself on partnering with their clients to protect people and property both during times of crisis and regular business operations.

As an international security practitioner, Mr. Martin has worked extensively in both the North American and overseas markets for over 20 years. Beyond his experience in the international security industry, he is a recognized subject matter expert in crisis management, use of force, threat/risk assessment and personal and physical security measures.

As a frequent keynote speaker and lecturer on a variety of security related issues, Mr. Martin advocates the importance of detailed risk analysis and proactive measures to enhance corporate and personal safety.

In addition to his work at AFIMAC, Mr. Martin previously held a Partial Load Professor status teaching Advanced Security Management and Security Law in a leading College's Graduate Studies Program.

Mr. Martin is a Graduate of Niagara Colleges Law & Security Administration Program with Honors, holds both an advanced certification in Corporate Finance from the New York Institute of Finance and Mergers & Acquisitions from the International Investment Banking Institute, and is current enrolled in Harvard’s Executive Education Program. Mr. Martin currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Manufacturing Association, the Steering Committee for the International Security Foundation through the U.S. Department of State and is an active member of the Global Security Advisory Group through Washington’s Center for Strategic International Studies. He also maintains active memberships in the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, Overseas Security Advisory Council and the Association of Counter-Terrorism and Security Professionals.

Joseph Schollaert — Senior Vice President Mr. Schollaert has more than 21 years of experience in the security and business continuity services industry. After graduation from college, Mr. Schollaert started his career with Allied Security, Inc. and progressed rapidly to become one of the youngest regional managers within the company. After eight years with Allied Security, Mr. Schollaert joined AFIMAC as director of operations.

As President, Schollaert has direct oversight of AFIMAC's strategic growth, sales and marketing, and operational planning and implementation. He is a member of the following associations: American Management Association (AMA), Chief Executive Network, American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS), Business Industry Continuity Emergency Planning and Preparedness (BICEPP), Ohio Association of Security and Investigative Services (OASIS), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Sandler Sales Institute, Sales Concepts Presidents Club, and Ohio Association of Private Detective Agencies (OAPDA).

Mr. Schollaert earned bachelor degrees in criminal justice and psychology from Duquesne University.

Han Koren Mr. Koren is an accomplished executive with more than eighteen years experience in the business to business service industry. His focus is on delivering excellent service to his customers and strategy development to further grow the business. Before joining AFIMAC Canada Mr. Koren worked for several global logistic service providers, focusing on strategy execution and continuous improvement. The last eight years he worked for a service provider in cash logistics where security, sound procedures and optimal employee training are key business requirements. In this role Mr. Koren was responsible for the entire Canadian operation - carried out from over twenty branches and several head office departments - and led the process of developing national continuity plans for all critical elements of the business.

Mr. Koren maintains active memberships in the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association, the Association of Professional Security Agencies and ASIS International.


Ruben E. MenaPresident  

Ruban Mena Ruben Mena served over 24 years on the Miami Police Department, retiring as the Lieutenant in charge of a major operational special unit. His civic career was highlighted by service as a senior officer and lead training instructor for the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, Command helicopter pilot in the Aviation Division, and a certified Firearms Instructor. As a special operations supervisor, Ruben gained extensive executive protection experience as a result of his numerous protective operations in conjunction with the U.S. Secret Service in the protection of U.S. Presidents and foreign heads of state.

Ruben's special expertise includes intricate knowledge of Latin America which he acquired while directing inter-police agency training exercises on behalf of the Miami P.D. Besides his excellent police and private security contacts throughout Latin American, Ruben has developed and directed comprehensive security and training programs for U.S. multi-national Fortune 500 corporations in the U.S. and throughout Latin America. He is an accomplished instructor in evasive driving, firearms, and executive protection operations.

Ruben is an expert in conducting detailed vulnerability assessments and developing crisis management plans for high-profile events. He has an extensive background in planning for the prevention of terrorist acts, including those involving weapons of mass destruction.

Ruben Mena is a graduate of LaSalle University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Management. He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. As well as being a member of the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) and American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), he is also certified in Homeland Security and a board Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).


Adrian VergelCOO  

Adrian Vergel Adrian Vergel served 5 years with the United States Marine Corps where he was stationed in Washington D.C. There, he served on the Presidential Helicopter Squadron where he worked closely with the U.S. Secret Service regarding all matters of security. His military training and experience includes personnel management, training skills, and a broad security background.

Since leaving government service, Mr. Vergel has served as Managing Director for Mena International Group since 2003. His special expertise includes his knowledge of North and South America which he acquired while directing and managing security operations for multi-national Fortune 500 corporations throughout the region. He is an accomplished instructor in counter-surveillance, evasive/defensive driving techniques, and executive protection operations.

Adrian speaks English and Spanish fluently, and is conversant in Portuguese. He is also a member of several North American Security Organizations including the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) and American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS).

Jim Rovers Mr. Rovers has been actively involved in the fields of security, investigations and labour dispute for nearly two decades. With a background in manufacturing engineering, he has assisted many Fortune 500 companies in the development of contingency plans regarding security, transportation and temporary staffing. He has worked extensively throughout Canada and the United States on investigation of theft and narcotic issues in the workplace.

Mr. Rovers joined AFIMAC in 2004 as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. A former executive of HRPLD (Human Resource Professionals of London) and he is a member of ASIS, the American Society of Industrial Security. Mr. Rovers is in the process of completing his CHRP (Canadian Human Resources Professional) accreditation.

Stephen Anderson — Vice President of Marketing Mr. Anderson has developed a unique knowledge base in the area of security-related marketing and management. Prior to joining AFIMAC in 2001, he worked for a major building developer managing the sales and marketing team, and coordinating security and public access planning for a new hotel development in Toronto. While managing an airport hotel staff of 30, Mr. Anderson liaised with federal authorities on many security-related investigations. He had full airport security clearance with the RCMP in this role.

He was the project manager for the construction and design of AFIMAC's company headquarters in Milton, Ontario, which is equipped with state-of-the-art security. He also coordinates all initiatives in relation to marketing, advertising, trade shows and events. He is a member of ASIS, the American Society of Industrial Security, IAAI, the International Association of Arson Investigators, HRPAO, the Human Resource Professionals Association of Ontario, its Manitoba counterpart HRMAM and APRC, the Association of Professional Recruiters of Canada.

Rob Shuster — Vice President of Protective Services and Training Prior to joining AFIMAC, Mr. Shuster spent most of his 30 year career with a global leader in uniform security and investigations services. There, he held various positions including: executive protection detail leader, director of training, vice president of corporate development and senior vice president of the asset protection team.

Mr. Shuster is a respected expert in security practices and training related to crisis management and response, labor disputes, close protection operations, special event security, security awareness programs, evasive & defensive driving, and executive protection program design. He has written corporate security articles and white papers, and has lectured for many noted organizations including the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), the International Society of Special Event Planners, the Young Presidents Organization, Penn State University, the Tactical Response Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Mr. Shuster has also served two (2) four year terms on the private security advisory board for the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services.

Amy Augustine — Manager of Crisis and Disaster Services Ms. Augustine joined AFIMAC in 1998. Since then, she has demonstrated exceptional ability in client services, developing strong, long-lasting client relationships - many of which have evolved into national account partnerships. Over the last decade, companies of all sizes and industries across the country have called on her expertise in the areas of strike planning and management. Her accomplishments include involvement in two of the largest and longest work stoppages in U.S. history.

Prior to her start in the crisis response industry, Ms. Augustine worked for 12 years as a sales professional in the architectural aluminum industry. She then served as the manager of inside sales for a commercial collections agency.

Ms. Augustine is a graduate of Cuyahoga Community College and Bryant and Stratton Business Institute, and holds degrees in business management and occupational studies. She is an active member of the following associations: Sales Concepts, Inc., Sandler Sales Institute, Glazer-Kennedy Insiders Circle, Chamber of Commerce, and the American Marketing Association.

Ron Ritter — Manager of Crisis & Disaster Services Mr. Ritter's security background includes almost 20 years with Vance/APT, developing business and leading operations at diverse sites including public utilities, steel mills, coal and copper mines, product distribution centers and paper product manufacturers.

Mr. Ritter has also served as an Asset Protection Team (APT) instructor in the U.S. and Canada, and has held several State Department of Criminal Justice Services and Department of Public Safety trainer certificates. In addition, he has served in the United States Army with 10 years active and 11 years reserve military service. His military experience includes military police training and performance assigned to strategic nuclear weapons support aircraft as well as reactive and custodial duty at a NATO nuclear weapons storage facility.


Agnaldo de OliveiraBrazil Operations Director

Agnaldo de Oliveira — Operations Director Agnaldo de Oliveira is a security professional with over 18 years of experience in international security as a Corporate Security Director. As the Director of Operations for Mena International Group Brazil, Mr. De Oliveira specialized in providing asset protection and loss prevention strategies for corporations with global operations. His responsibilities included providing leadership and management for all client operations.

Mr. de Oliveira is proficient in conducting facility and residential security surveys, as well as detailed vulnerability assessments and developing crisis management plans for high profile events. Agnaldo has an extensive background in executive protection for multi-national clients and high profile individuals. He is also an expert in vehicle armoring and a seasoned Evasive-Defensive Driving Instructor having personally conducted many successful training schools both nationally and internationally.

Agnaldo has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Sao Paulo (UNIP) in International Security Management. He is a member of the OSAC Latin America Group and the American Society for Industrial Security, ASIS.


Maria Teresa SeptienDirector Business Development Latin America

Maria Teresa Septien — Director Business Development Latin America Involved in the security industry for over 15 years, Mrs. Septien has experience in identifying and building up innovative risk management solutions and programs, aligning the security function with the business objectives of the organizations. She has worked for several multinational corporations.

She has experience in the fields of Corporate Security, Crisis and Risk Management, Business Continuity and Corporate and Executive Security Training.

Mrs. Septien has a bachelor degree in Information Systems by the Anahuac University, obtaining the award as best student in Campus and receiving a Suma Cum Laude in 1988. She got the certification DSE from the University of Comillas, Madrid, Spain as Director of Enterprise Security through a diplomat in 2015. She has received intensive training in Corporate Security, Crisis Management, Business Continuity, Executive Protection, Information Security, among many others.

She is the Regional Liaison for WIS (Women in Security) for Mexico, Central America & the Caribbean for ASIS International.



Adam CurtisSenior Director of Corporate Investigations

Adam Curtis — Senior Director of Corporate Investigations A consummate corporate investigations leader, Adam Curtis brings extensive domestic and international security knowledge and experience to his senior director role at AFIMAC. Mr. Curtis’s career spans 27 years in senior management roles with Air Canada Corporate Security and, prior to that, with the Victoria Police Force in Melbourne, Australia. In recent years, he has received several commendations for outstanding investigations work, including a prestigious letter of recognition from President Barak Obama for his assistance during the 2010 Canadian G8/G12 in Toronto. His mandate in his new AFIMAC role is to build and grow AFIMAC into a domestic and international leader in corporate investigations.

Ed Zukowski — Vice President of Human Resources Mr. Zukowski brings 18 years of human resources, training and employee development experience to his role as HR Director. Prior to joining AFIMAC in 2006, he served for eight years as the director of human resources for a Cleveland-based franchising company. Additionally, Mr. Zukowski brings experience in conflict resolution, employee counselling, workplace accident investigation and documentation, benefit administration, and corporate-level recruiting.

Mr. Zukowski is a member of The Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), and served for three consecutive years on the business advisory committee for United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from Penn State University.

James Scally — Vice President Corporate Finance Mr. Scally brings more than 12 years of experience in the areas of accounting, financial analysis and financial planning to his role as vice president of corporate finance. In this role, he is responsible for developing and overseeing financial accounting and treasury policy and for managing all the financial affairs of the corporation.

After obtaining his Certified Public Accountant, C.P.A. license, Mr. Scally practiced in public accounting and internal audit prior to moving to the operational side of business.
