Reshaping the Food Beverage Manufacturing Supply Chain
Food and beverage production is moving closer to home. Most of those moves are nowhere near finished.
The wage advantage that pushed production offshore has narrowed, tariffs and export controls have added risk to long supply lines, and automation has taken more of the labor cost out of the equation. Bain found 81% of large-company CEOs and COOs planning to move supply chain operations closer to market, but only 2% have actually completed the move. Mexico has passed mainland China as the largest exporter to the U.S., and reshoring has more than doubled domestic manufacturing construction spending since 2022. The catch is labor: Deloitte puts the current gap at 1.9 million workers, headed for 3.8 million within the decade.
