A Snapshot of Automotive Manufacturing Labor in America
Automakers aren’t waiting on the labor market to sort itself out. They’re staffing around it.
We surveyed 128 executives at U.S. manufacturers with $100MM or more in revenue and at least 100 employees to find out how. Eight in ten use semi-skilled short-term labor, 73% bring in specialized workers, and among those hiring specialized labor, 83% call it extremely or very important to strategy. Nearly half have gone outside for extra people four or more times in the past two to three years, and 72% expect to lean on a vendor for specialized temporary labor going forward. Half are covering shortages that have no end date, which is the finding worth sitting with.
